Koinonia Sponsorship Responsibilities
Sponsoring a New Koinonian for a Koinonia Weekend is an uplifting and beautiful
experience, but it is also a serious responsibility, requiring prayerful consideration,
loving support and follow-up. Inviting someone is only a small step. Before
you say the first word -- PRAY! God's timing, not our timing, is key. Once the
invitation has been issued, hold them up in prayer daily as they consider their
decision. Encourage them to reach their conclusions in prayer. If they say no,
continue to pray and keep them posted as weekends approach, but do not badger!
Before the Weekend
- Make certain your New Koinonian has an adequate understanding of Koinonia.
Be open and honest with them. Let them know this is a Christian renewal Weekend.
Answer all questions truthfully and fully but try not to mention the surprise
elements. Most importantly, share with them what you gained from the experience.
·
- Get the New Koinonian's pre-paid application in early to ensure a spot on
the desired Weekend date. Make certain the application lists any special physical,
medical, personal, or dietary needs so we can be prepared.
- If financing is a problem, you should encourage them to contribute what
they can. You may wish to help with Palanka dollar, then seek help from other
Koinonians to make up the difference.
- Make certain your New Koinonian has all the required information concerning
facilities, location and time of the Weekend.
- Arrange for childcare, or pet sitting if needed.
- Help with transportation, if necessary. Remember it is much easier for them
to come with another person. Better yet, why not bring your New Koinonian
to the Weekend (unless you are a Team member).
- Support the Weekend, the Team, and the New Koinonians with prayer.
- Support the Weekend with donations of Warden's needs, goodies, Palanka and/or
money.
- Write a Palanka letter for them to find in their mailbag.
During the Weekend
- Care for children and pets.
- Support the Weekend with prayer.
- Attend Mananitas at 6:00am on the Sunday of the weekend if possible.
- Stay as long as your schedule permits. Attend the closing on Sunday if possible.
- Consider having an evening meal ready for them when they get home.
After the Weekend
- Keeps in close contact with your New Koinonian, showing love and support.
- A supportive call on Monday or Tuesday as the Fourth Day crashes in may
be appropriate.
- Bring your New Koinonian to the first Ultreya after the weekend and boldly
introduce them to people.
- Bring/encourage your New Koinonian to join a prayer and share group.
- Bring your New Koinonian to Ultreyas and Palanka Parties.
- Ask them if they want to sponsor someone for the next weekend.
- Continue your prayer support for the New Koinonian and the community as
a whole.
